Employees Legitimate Demands Will Be Considered with Full Sympathy Harchand Singh Barsat
S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali), June 01, 2026- Representatives from various employee organizations met today with the Chairman of the Punjab Mandi Board, S. Harchand Singh Barsat, at the Board's head office. They submitted a charter of demands and held detailed discussions regarding various issues concerning the employees. During the meeting, S. Barsat assured the representatives of the organizations that their demands would be duly considered and resolved.
During the meeting, leaders of the Punjab Mandi Board Employees Union demanded an increase in the salaries of employees working at the head office and requested that they be paid in accordance with the Chandigarh D.C. rates. Additionally, a demand was raised to transition employees currently working on an outsourced basis across various positions within the Mandi Board—specifically those who have completed more than three years of service—to a contractual basis.
Similarly, representatives of the Class IV Government Employees Union, Punjab, demanded the absorption into the Board of technical staff—including Class IV employees—who have been rendering services on a contract or outsourced basis across various branches of the Mandi Board for a long period. The union representatives emphasized that appropriate measures must be taken to secure the future of these long-serving employees.
Representatives of the Punjab Mandi Board and Market Committee Outsourced Employees Union voiced their concerns before the Chairman regarding the 'Punjab State Outsourced Personnel Bill-2026,' which was recently passed by the Punjab Cabinet. They pointed out that the Mandi Board and Market Committees had not been explicitly included within the scope of this Bill. They demanded that all employees who joined the service prior to March 31, 2026, be brought under the ambit of this Bill, and that the salaries of outsourced employees also be increased.
Chairman S. Harchand Singh Barsat listened attentively to the points raised by the representatives of all the unions and assured them that all issues and demands concerning the employees would be considered with the utmost seriousness and sympathy, and would be duly resolved. He stated that the Punjab government is committed to the welfare of its employees and to resolving their demands.
S. Barsat remarked that employees constitute the backbone of any institution, and ensuring their welfare is a priority for the government. He added that every problem can be resolved through mutual dialogue and cooperation, and that every possible effort will be made to safeguard the interests of the employees.
