Electronic waste sent for scientific recycling Aashika Jain
Hoshiarpur: Under the district-level e-waste collection campaign launched jointly by the District Administration, Red Cross Society, and 'Beyond the Eye' Trust Foundation to mark World Environment Day, approximately 1,500 kilograms of electronic waste were collected and sent to an authorized recycler for scientific processing.
During the event, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain stated that this initiative, carried out under the 'Charda Suraj' (Rising Sun) campaign, is highly commendable. She shared that within just 15 days, with the support of schools, NGOs, and aware citizens, about 1.5 tons of e-waste was collected.
The DC emphasized that this initiative will not only make e-waste management more effective and scientific but also raise awareness among children and citizens regarding the safe disposal of electronic waste. She noted the economic importance of e-waste, stating that if it reaches authorized recyclers, it can be repurposed to contribute to strengthening the economy.
Aashika Jain added that this is not a one-time campaign but will be continued in the future. She congratulated the schools, social organizations, NGOs, and citizens for their support and appealed to people to adopt solid waste management at home and use separate dustbins for different types of waste. Manveer Singh, founder of 'Beyond the Eye' Trust Foundation, praised the 'Charda Suraj' campaign. During the event, the success of the campaign was celebrated, and contributing organizations and individuals were honored.
Representatives and principals from 18 schools, along with members of various social organizations, were present. Notably, 31 private schools from the district actively participated in the campaign. Citizens who voluntarily deposited their e-waste, demonstrating awareness of scientific disposal, were also honored.
