Elections to Municipal Council Kharar Deferred Following Honble High Court Orders

SAS Nagar, May 17:- Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Mrs Komal Mittal informed that the State Election Commission, Punjab, has issued directions regarding deferment of the General Elections to Municipal Council Kharar in compliance with the orders of the Hon’ble Punjab and Haryana High Court.
She stated that as per the communication received from the State Election Commission, Punjab, the ongoing election process for Municipal Council Kharar, including the nomination process presently underway, has been terminated with immediate effect.
The decision has been taken in view of the orders dated May 15, 2026 passed by the Hon’ble High Court in CWP No. 14752 of 2026 titled Kulwant Singh Vs. State of Punjab, concerning inclusion of voters of adjoining prescribed areas related to MC Kharar.
The Deputy Commissioner further informed that public notice regarding the deferment of elections has been displayed at the offices of the Returning Officer, Kharar and Municipal Council Kharar.
She added that candidates who may have already filed their nomination papers for MC Kharar would be entitled to refund of nomination fee as per the directions issued by the State Election Commission.
DC Komal Mittal said that further action regarding conduct of elections to Municipal Council Kharar would be undertaken after receipt of fresh notification from the Department of Local Government, Punjab.
