Election Commission of India reviews interstate border preparations

Chandigarh, October 31 - Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Shri A Srinivas said that the Election Commission of India recently organized a coordination meeting on issues related to inter-state borders in view of the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar. The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretaries of Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, Director General of Police and Principal Secretary of the Home Department, along with officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Railways and various enforcement agencies.
He said that the Election Commission of India conducted a detailed review of the law and order situation in Bihar and its adjoining states, so that the movement of people, material and money including arms, anti-social elements, liquor, drugs and free gifts across the inter-state and international borders with Nepal could be monitored for the upcoming assembly elections in the state.
During the meeting, Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar reiterated the Commission's commitment to conduct free, fair, peaceful and corruption-free elections. He urged all the concerned officers to adopt a coordinated and effective approach to maintain the sanctity of the election process.
The Commission also reviewed the compliance of voter-facilitation instructions to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience for the voters on the election day. He said that the Chief Secretaries and Director Generals of Police as well as heads of central agencies have been directed to ensure that the general elections to the Bihar Assembly 2025 are peaceful and corruption-free.
Mr. A. Srinivas said that the Commission has directed the Chief Secretaries and Director Generals of Police of Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal and the Director General of Armed Forces to increase vigil on the borders bordering Bihar and to conduct checks at inter-state checkpoints.
He further informed that central agencies including Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Income Tax Department, Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have been directed to intensify efforts before the elections and make maximum seizures based on actionable intelligence.
