Elderly Sikh driver beaten up by AfricanAmerican man in New York
Chandigarh:- A disturbing incident of an elderly Sikh taxi driver being pushed to the ground in New York City has come to light, sparking outrage after a video of the incident went viral on social media. He was allegedly attacked by an African-American man.
The video shows the elderly driver being pushed by a man after an argument on the roadside. The attacker allegedly accused the driver of hitting another vehicle and was heard threatening more violence before pushing him to the ground.
Although the victim sustained injuries, social media updates said he was safe and in “good spirits”. The incident has drawn sharp reactions from Sikh organisations, who have condemned the attack and expressed concern over the safety of elderly members of the community, especially those engaged in public work like taxi driving.
Community leaders have questioned the level of violence used against the elderly man and have called for strict action against the perpetrators of such violence. They also highlighted the vulnerable position of Sikh drivers, many of whom are immigrants and senior citizens.
The incident comes amid growing concerns about similar incidents. On April 22, a separate incident occurred in Woodstock, Ontario, where an elderly Sikh man was allegedly pushed and verbally abused in what was described as a hate-motivated attack.
Previous fatal attacks on Sikh taxi drivers in the US have further heightened concerns in the community, prompting calls for safety measures and awareness. New York authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident. An investigation is expected to be launched amid growing pressure for accountability.
