Earthquake of magnitude 6 in north Kashmir Delhi also shook
Srinagar/New Delhi:- Earthquake tremors were felt in north-west Kashmir, measuring 6 on the Richter scale. The National Centre for Seismology said the earthquake was at a depth of 35 km (21.75 miles). More details are awaited.
Meanwhile, tremors of a 2.8 magnitude earthquake were also felt in Delhi on Monday morning. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the tremors were felt at around 8:44 am. The epicentre of the earthquake was in north Delhi and was at a depth of 5 km.
The national capital falls in zone four of the seismically active areas, which is the second highest category. Several earthquakes of magnitude 4 have occurred in Delhi-NCR in recent years. In 2022, a 4.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in Delhi's neighbouring state, Haryana. According to data from the US Geological Survey, no earthquake tremors of magnitude greater than 5 have been felt in Delhi in the last 10 years.
