DTF delegation meets board chairman regarding problems of students in floodaffected areas
Mohali, October 10- Democratic Teachers Front, led by state president Vikram Dev Singh, held a meeting with chairman Dr. Amarpal Singh regarding the demand for exemption from paying examination fees for classes 8 and 10 for students in flood-affected areas of Punjab, compensation for damage to books and cancellation of certificate fees for classes 5 to 12.
On this occasion, other secretaries of Punjab School Education Board S. Gurinder Singh Sodhi also attended the meeting. The chairman assured to provide necessary relief to the students by contacting the high-level committee of the Punjab government regarding floods formed on the entire matter.
Giving detailed information in this regard, State Vice President of Democratic Teachers Front Punjab Gurpyar Singh Kotli said that a large part of Punjab has been affected by floods between August-September 2025. The people in the flood-affected areas have suffered immense loss of life and property.
While the crops of the farmers living in these villages have been destroyed, there is no employment opportunity for the workers and other lower classes in the near future. It will take a long time for the lives of the people of these areas to get back on track. This great tragedy has also affected the student community.
Due to the huge economic loss of the people in the flood-affected areas, the student community here is facing serious problems in paying the examination fees and the educational future of the students has also been put in doubt. Along with this, due to the prolonged stay of a large number of schools and houses in the flood-affected areas under water, the books of the students have also been damaged.
The Democratic Teachers Front, while submitting a demand letter, demanded from the Punjab School Education Board that the examination fees of all the students of class X and XII March-2026 (Regular) in the flood-affected areas of Punjab be waived. A report should be collected on the availability of books for students of all categories belonging to flood-affected areas and the necessary books should be provided to the students immediately after assessing the damage.
The unnecessary fee imposed on all students of Punjab of classes 5th, 8th, 10th and 12th for obtaining hard copies of certificates should be canceled. On this occasion, among others, Gian Chand (District President Rupnagar), Shiv Shankar Sharma (DTF Mohali), Sukhjit Singh (DTF Malerkotla) and Dilbagh Singh Raia (Sri Amritsar) were present.
