Dr Gurmel Singh Promoted as Joint Director Agriculture
SAS Nagar, February 3:- The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of Punjab, has promoted Dr. Gurmel Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, to the post of Joint Director Agriculture through special orders.
Dr. Gurmel Singh completed his M.Sc. in Soil Science from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, and joined the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in 1992 as an Agriculture Development Officer at the Soil Testing Laboratory, Garhshankar. He later served at the Punjab State Seed Certification Authority, Chandigarh, from 1995 to 1998.
From 1998 to 2016, Dr. Gurmel Singh worked as an Agriculture Development Officer in the districts of Patiala, Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, and Mohali. He was promoted to the post of Agriculture Officer in 2016, after which he served till 2021 in important assignments including Block Agriculture Officer, Rajpura, and Chief Inspector Fertilizer in the office of the Director of Agriculture, Punjab.
During 2021, he also served as Deputy Director of Agriculture (LCPP) and subsequently as Chief Agriculture Officer in Rupnagar and SAS Nagar districts.
In addition, he worked as Joint Director of Agriculture (HYVP) in the office of the Director of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Punjab, where he made a significant contribution towards ensuring the availability and quality of certified seeds of various crops across the state.
Dr. Gurmel Singh expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the cooperation and support extended by officers and employees of the department during his service. He also thanked Agriculture Minister Punjab, S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian, and the Administrative Secretary, Agriculture, Punjab, for entrusting him with the important responsibility of Joint Director Agriculture.
