Documentary filmmaker Vishal Singh should be released immediately Democratic Front

Nawanshahr:- In a press statement issued here today, the state conveners of the Democratic Front against Operation Green Hunt, Dr. Parminder Singh, Prof. A.K. Maleri, Buta Singh Mahmudpur and Yash Pal, have demanded the immediate release of documentary filmmaker and activist Vishal Singh in view of his critical condition. According to the information given by his wife Rebecca, Vishal Singh, who has been in custody since June 2025 in the Lucknow conspiracy case, is in a critical condition.
34-year-old Vishal Singh was already suffering from migraine, but his condition has deteriorated rapidly while in jail. He has migraine attacks every two to three days and is surviving on temporary medications without specialist medical treatment or necessary medical supervision.
In March, he suffered a serious medical condition like a seizure, which left one side of his face numb. His health deteriorated further after this. He is vomiting continuously due to his blood pressure rising to dangerous levels, has swelling in his face and legs, has difficulty walking without support and his vision has become so poor that he cannot even recognise a person standing nearby. Rebecca said that during the meeting on July 22, Vishal could not recognise him even from a distance of a foot.
Vishal was not even able to go to the bathroom on his own and instead of getting the necessary treatment, he was kept in the jail OPD for five days. Vishal Singh was detained during the arrests and raids carried out by the NIA in 2023, in which social activists, journalists, lawyers, students and labour leaders from several states were arrested on charges of being overground workers of the CPI (Maoist).
This is a conspiracy to justify the long imprisonment of pro-people and democratic activists by labeling them as “urban Naxals” or “overground workers” on the lines of the Bhima Koregaon conspiracy case. Such cases are being kept pending in the courts for many years and the activists are being burned in jails. Despite the passage of more than a year since his arrest, the NIA has not even filed a chargesheet against Vishal Singh. The leaders of the front demanded that the false Lucknow conspiracy case be quashed, all the activists jailed in this case including Vishal Singh be released immediately and the National Investigation Agency, the instrument of repression, be dismantled.
