District Police Register 95 NDPS Cases and Make 123 Arrests in May

Hoshiarpur: During a review meeting held here today regarding the district police's anti-drug operations under the National Narcotics Coordination (NCORD) portal, it was reported that 95 cases were registered and 123 accused persons were arrested in the month of May.
Led by SDM Parampreet Singh, SP (PBI) Major Singh, and Assistant Commissioner Sumit Mudh, the NCORD review meeting covered details on drug prevention efforts, the admission of drug-addicted individuals to rehabilitation centers, and awareness activities against substance abuse. The anti-drug initiatives of various concerned departments were also reviewed in detail during the meeting.
SP Major Singh stated that during May, the district police recovered 878 grams of heroin, over 26 kg of poppy husk, more than 1,000 intoxicating capsules, and ?15,100 in drug money. He noted that the district police are taking continuous action to effectively curb drug abuse; these measures include confiscating the assets of drug smugglers, registering cases under the NDPS Act, and admitting addicted youth to rehabilitation and OAT (Opioid Agonist Treatment) centers.
He further mentioned that the district police conducted 147 public meetings during May to raise awareness among the public about the rising trend of drug abuse. The SDM directed officials from other relevant departments to maintain constant coordination with the police department and strive for the successful implementation of necessary anti-drug measures.
