District Health Departments comprehensive action to prevent dengue
Hoshiarpur:- Under the state-level campaign “Har Puri Dengu Te Vaar” being run by the Health and Family Welfare Department Punjab for dengue prevention, extensive cleaning, inspection and awareness activities were carried out today. Sharing information in this regard, Dr. Garg said that under yesterday’s campaign, 8439 places including schools, offices and houses were inspected in detail across the district.
During which mosquito larvae were found in 96 houses. He said that 146 experienced teams conducted a comprehensive survey from villages to urban areas and gave instructions to the people about immediate cleaning, source reduction and water drainage at the places where larvae were found.
He said that useless water lying in houses, coolers, roofs, flower pots, old tires, polythene bags or other places where water accumulates are the most dangerous for the breeding of dengue mosquitoes. Dr. Seema Garg said that public cooperation is most important for the success of this campaign. Since mosquito breeding mostly takes place inside and around houses, visits by government teams alone are not enough.
Every person should regularly clean their home and surrounding environment to prevent mosquito breeding. She also said that people have been made aware about the symptoms of dengue—such as high fever, headache, pain behind the eyes, body aches, joint pain and chills.
If anyone experiences these symptoms, they should immediately get checked at the nearest government health facility, as timely treatment can prevent the disease from becoming serious. Dr. Seema Garg also shared information about the current situation of dengue and chikungunya in the district. She said that a total of 181 dengue cases and 9 chikungunya cases have been registered in the district till date.
