Disaster Management and Fire Safety Training Conducted at Nursing School
Patiala 16th June:- A program was organized under the leadership of Principal Mrs. Surinder Pal Kaur at the Mata Kaushalya Hospital Nursing School to provide training to students in disaster management, first aid, fire safety, and civil defense. Principal Surinder Pal Kaur stated that the risks from natural, seasonal, and man-made disasters, as well as wars and fires, are continuously increasing. Since victims are kept in hospitals for treatment and health care, nursing students have a greater need for training and practice in disaster management, civil defense, first aid, fire safety, and the use of fire extinguishers to ensure the safety and assistance of patients and the public.
On this occasion, Disaster Management, First Aid, and Safety Trainer, Sh. Kaka Ram Verma, explained that many deaths are occurring due to sudden incidents, disasters, gas leaks, fires, smoke, heart attacks, cardiac arrests, and fainting. Therefore, every citizen, employee, and youth must undergo training in first aid, CPR, disaster management, and civil defense to save their families, society, and the country, and to assist victims.
Sh. Jatinder Pal Singh, former A.D.F.O., Punjab Fire and Emergency Services, provided training on the causes and types of fires, methods of extinguishing them, and the types and proper use of fire extinguishers. He noted that every year, millions of people die and property is destroyed due to fires caused by gas, electricity, petroleum, and other flammable substances. He emphasized that during a fire emergency, the first 2-3 minutes are crucial for saving lives and property. This is why the Indian and Punjab governments are conducting training programs to prepare people for their own safety and rescue.
At the conclusion of the event, Principal Mrs. Surinder Pal Kaur, along with staff and students, thanked the trainers, emphasizing that every institution, hospital, commercial establishment, home, and vehicle should regularly conduct such training and drills to stay alert and prepared against fire hazards.
