Dhuri Players Shine in DistrictLevel Badminton Championships

Sangrur/Dhuri, August 25:- A three-day Open District-Level Badminton Tournament was organised by the District Badminton Association, Sangrur, at the local Police Lines, Sangrur. Competitions were held in the Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, Under-19 and Senior categories. Players from Dhuri city delivered an impressive performance and brought laurels to their city.
Dhuri’s badminton player Manseerat Kaur, daughter of Rupinder Singh, showcased outstanding skills and won a silver medal in the Under-13 Girls’ Singles and a gold medal in the Doubles category. In addition, she won a bronze medal in Under-15 Singles, silver medals in Under-15 Doubles and Mixed Doubles, a gold medal in Under-17 Mixed Doubles, and a bronze medal in the Senior category. Thus, Manseerat Kaur won a total of seven medals across different categories, displaying her exceptional talent.
Similarly, in the Under-17 Boys’ category, Dhuri’s Opraj Jujhar Singh, son of Rupinder Singh, also performed exceptionally well and secured bronze medals in both Singles and Doubles events.
On the occasion, veteran badminton player and coach Madam Skora Begum, who was present specially to encourage the players, congratulated the winners for their achievements. Madam Skora Begum has been a national-level badminton player and, even at the age of around 62–63 years, continues to remain dedicated to the sport. She is also making continuous efforts to promote sports among young players by providing free badminton coaching to children at Sita Grammar School and Malerkotla Club in Malerkotla.
She said that sports play an important role in the overall development of youth and encouraged players to continue pursuing their sport with hard work, discipline and dedication. She added that with proper guidance and regular practice, young players can get opportunities to establish their identity at the state and national levels.
To encourage the winning players, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sangrur, Karnail Singh; badminton coach Madam Skora Begum; and coach Parminder Singh Vicky honoured the promising players and motivated them to achieve greater accomplishments at the state and national levels in the future.
