Dhuri Emerges as the Axis of Development During 2025
Dhuri, December 28:- The year 2025 marked a defining phase for the Assembly Constituency of Dhuri, witnessing unprecedented progress in development works, infrastructure strengthening and people-centric initiatives. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, development projects worth ?329 crore were executed in a planned and need-based manner across the constituency, bringing visible and lasting improvements to both urban and rural areas.
Holding a distinct identity as the home constituency of the Chief Minister, Dhuri further strengthened citizen-centric governance with the establishment of the Chief Minister’s Facilitation Centre in May 2025. The centre has emerged as an effective platform for direct interaction between residents and their elected representative, enabling prompt grievance redressal and participatory governance. Public representatives and government officials have worked in close coordination at the centre, while the Chief Minister has personally visited on several occasions to hear public concerns and hold deliberations with sarpanches and councillors, leading to the formulation of new development initiatives for villages and towns.
Significant strides were also made in the fields of education and sports during the year. A state-of-the-art public library, constructed at a cost of ?1.59 crore, was dedicated to the public. Spread over 3,710 square feet, the facility is equipped with Wi-Fi, digital reading resources and solar power, offering a modern learning environment for students and readers. In parallel, the plan for a modern sports stadium in Dhuri was taken forward, enhancing sporting opportunities for youth, while a fully equipped gymnasium with advanced machinery was established at village Benra to promote physical fitness among all age groups.
Healthcare infrastructure in the constituency received a substantial boost with 10 Aam Aadmi Clinics providing accessible and quality medical services close to people’s homes. In addition, three new clinics have been completed and will soon be dedicated to the public. Construction of a new block of the Sub-Divisional Hospital along with a Maternal and Child Care Building, being undertaken at an estimated cost of around ?22 crore, is progressing at a rapid pace and is set to deliver world-class healthcare facilities to residents of the area.
Urban development and beautification of Dhuri town gained fresh momentum in 2025. Works worth ?3.35 crore are underway to rejuvenate the historic Kranti Chowk, MC Park, Indoor Sports Hall and the Patwar Khana. Further improving civic amenities, the prominent Cinema Road is being illuminated with 116 LED street lights at a cost of ?41 lakh, while 3,550 conventional bulbs across the town have been replaced with LED lights, significantly enhancing night-time visibility and public safety.
Rural and road infrastructure development also remained a key focus during the year. Renovation of village phirnis and widening of roads across the Dhuri Assembly constituency were undertaken on a war footing, with road works worth nearly ?100 crore in progress. This includes ?9 crore for city roads, ?30 crore for village phirnis and ?58 crore for the upgradation of main roads, ensuring smoother connectivity and improved transportation.
Overall, development works worth approximately ?329 crore encompassing 980 projects were completed in the Dhuri Assembly constituency during 2025. These included 43 works by the Water Supply and Sanitation Department, 48 by the Punjab Mandi Board, 130 by the Panchayati Raj Department, 24 by the Public Works Department, 80 by the Education Department, 37 by the Municipal Council Dhuri, 369 by BDPO Dhuri and 121 by BDPO Sherpur. Collectively, these initiatives across roads, education, sports, healthcare and public infrastructure underscore the comprehensive development of Dhuri, firmly establishing it as a model constituency.
