Development Works Reviewed Departments Directed to Operate in a TimeBound Manner
Hoshiarpur: Acting on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Nikas Kumar today reviewed the ongoing development works in the district, emphasizing to officials the need to extend the benefits of welfare schemes to all eligible individuals and to expedite the pace of these projects. Presiding over a meeting of officials from various departments at the District Administrative Complex, he also sought updates from department heads regarding their operational progress.
Addressing the NCORD meeting during this session, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Nikas Kumar urged all departments to work in unison to eradicate drug abuse from the district, ensuring that this poison plaguing society is uprooted completely. During the meeting, DSP Palwinder Singh, representing the District Police, reported that 111 FIRs were registered under the NDPS Act during the month of February, leading to the arrest of 121 accused individuals.
Furthermore, property worth ?16,90,400 was seized. He also informed the gathering that the District Police organized 95 seminars to raise awareness regarding drug abuse. The Additional Deputy Commissioner issued directives to the Departments of School Education, Health, Drug Control, Excise and Taxation, and the Police—along with all other departments—to take every necessary measure at their respective levels to curb drug-related activities.
Addressing a meeting on road safety, the Additional Deputy Commissioner issued instructions to identify "black spots" (accident-prone areas) and implement appropriate safety measures to ensure that no passerby falls victim to a road accident. During this session, the Transport Department reported that, under the "Safe School Vahan Policy" (Safe School Vehicle Policy), 83 school vehicles were inspected during February, and 4 challans (traffic violation tickets) were issued. Similarly, the Police Department reported that, as part of their enforcement drive, 5,797 challans were issued in February; of these, 633 challans were issued on the spot, resulting in the collection of fines totaling ?4,30,000. Subsequently, he also reviewed the progress of works related to GST, Excise, the District Environment Committee, UEIP, the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Solid and Liquid Waste Management, and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). He stated that the objective of the district administration is to ensure transparency, quality, and timeliness in development works. He directed all departments to ensure that the benefits of every scheme reach the general public.
Present on this occasion were SDM Dasuya Kanwaljit Singh, SDM Garhshankar Sanjeev Kumar, SDM Mukerian Jyotsna, SDM Tanda Lovepreet Singh, Assistant Commissioner Parmpreet Singh, and Gurpreet Kaur, along with officials from various other departments.
