Deputy Commissioner Reviews Road Safety Measures with District Road Safety Committee

SAS Nagar, November 19, 2025:- Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal today held a special review meeting with the District Transport Department and the District Road Safety Committee at the District Administrative Complex to assess and strengthen road safety measures in the district.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner expressed concern over the black spots identified on key roads of the district, which pose a threat to commuters. She directed NHAI, GMADA, Municipal Corporation Mohali and other responsible departments to immediately rectify all pending black spots on priority to ensure the safety of road users.
She also instructed officials to install reflectors, warning signage and necessary road dividers across the district in view of the upcoming foggy weather to prevent accidents.
Reviewing the report submitted by the Traffic Police—regarding clearing of roadside bushes, installation of spring cones, rumble strips, traffic light timers, blinkers, zebra crossings, stop lines, speed limit boards and no-parking signage—the Deputy Commissioner directed GMADA, the Municipal Corporation and the Public Works Department to implement all recommendations within the next two weeks and submit an action-taken report.
Strict Compliance of Safe School Vehicle Policy:
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that all school buses must comply strictly with safety norms and that negligence will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The RTO informed that during September and October, a joint checking drive was conducted by the Traffic Police, RTA and CDPO Office, during which 40 school buses were inspected and challans were issued to 3 buses. In addition, the RTO issued challans to 15 buses, while 50 buses were declared fit by the MVI after inspection.
Awareness on Good Samaritan Scheme:
The Deputy Commissioner further directed officials to spread awareness about the Punjab Government’s Good Samaritan (Farishte) Scheme, under which a person who helps an accident victim by providing immediate assistance is rewarded with Rs 2000 by the government. She also stressed the importance of prompt reporting of road accidents on the E-DAR Portal, which helps in identifying accident-prone locations and ensures timely disbursal of compensation.
Speedy Disposal of Hit-and-Run Cases:
The Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to expedite the disposal of pending applications in hit-and-run cases so that compensation of Rs 2 lakh in death cases and Rs 50,000 for grievous injuries can be disbursed without delay.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Geetika Singh, DSP (Traffic) Karnail Singh and senior officers from various concerned departments were present in the meeting.
