Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal holds review meeting of District Road Safety Committee

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, 18 August, 2026:- Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal today held special meeting of District Road Safety Committee at District Administrative Complex. During meeting Deputy Commissioner stressed to officials to fix on priority basis black spots (accident prone places) on main roads of district which are causing difficulties to people, to make necessary arrangements for road safety, to ensure strict compliance of traffic rules and to take effective action against violators of rules. She said that working with better coordination among various departments for road safety is extremely necessary.
Giving information in this regard Deputy Commissioner told that District Administration is fully alert to stop road accidents in district. She also asked concerned officials to make awareness activities regarding road safety more effective at schools, colleges, public places and other sensitive places.
She said for stopping road accidents Municipal Corporation and GMADA have been instructed under City Surveillance and Traffic Management system started in city to ensure immediately traffic signs on roads in collaboration with police, like clarity of zebra crossing, no parking sign boards, stop lines and speed limit boards, etc. Besides this she also asked to repair broken railings of roads and to install new railings so that traffic on roads is safe.
She issued instructions to officials of various agencies of district NHAI, GMADA, B&R and Municipal Corporation to immediately correct black spots (accident prone places) on roads of district and said that whatever work is to be done like traffic lights, slip road, service line etc on roads coming under their jurisdiction, be got done immediately.
She asked to continuously check to close unauthorized cuts made on roads in city and to stop rehris, faddis, illegal encroachments and wrong parking of vehicles etc put around roads. Besides this keeping in view safety of children she asked to do more and more checking of school buses and to challan buses not using safety equipments. During meeting CDPO told that they have checked 47 school buses, out of which 2 buses have been challaned.
Besides this progress and effective monitoring of Hit and Run and Cashless Treatment Scheme, Farishtey Scheme, Rah-Veer/Good Samaritan Scheme, Road Safety Mitra Program and e-DAR Project was also discussed. During meeting progress of various government efforts regarding providing immediate treatment to victims of road accidents, recording information regarding accidents, encouraging citizens who help at time of accident and helping people through road safety volunteers was also reviewed.
Along with this she asked to make people aware about cash reward given by government to good persons for helping victims of road accident that if any person helps an accident victim then he will be given Rs 2000 by government (under Farishtey Scheme). She asked hospital officials to make more and more people aware in this regard and to put posters in hospitals.
Deputy Commissioner also stressed on immediate reporting of accidents on e-DAR portal. She asked to immediately dispose of pending applications of Hit and Run cases so that relief of Rs 2 lakh in death cases and Rs 50,000 to those with serious injuries can be given.
On this occasion Additional RTA Shri Harpreet Singh Atwal, members of District Road Safety Committee besides senior officials of other departments were present.
