Nawanshahr:- Deputy Commissioner, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Gulpreet Singh Aulakh on Tuesday held a review meeting for flood prevention in view of the monsoon season. On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (J) Balbir Raj Singh, SDM Banga Vipan Bhandari, SDM Nawanshahr Anamjyot Kaur, Sub Divisional Officer Harkamal Hira, Executive Engineer Water Drainage-cum-Mining and Geology Division Kirandeep Kaur, District Revenue Officer Mandeep Singh, Executive Engineer Davinder Singh, Sub Divisional Officer Navjot Singh and senior officers of various departments were present.
While reviewing the advance preparations being made by the district administration, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the steps being taken by the departments for possible floods. He directed the officers to identify the sensitive places adjacent to the Dhussi Dam, especially keeping in mind the situation of last year, so that timely preventive steps can be taken. He also reviewed the new works being undertaken by the concerned departments to prevent any flood-like situation during the monsoon.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed that all the ongoing works should be completed before the monsoons, so that the residents do not have to face any kind of problem. He also directed the officials to personally monitor the strengthening works being done on the Dhussi embankment along the banks of the Sutlej river, so that quality and time constraints can be ensured.
All the departments were also asked to keep the ‘Flood Protection Action Plan 2026’ and ‘District Disaster Management Plan 2026’ updated, so that any situation can be dealt with effectively.
