Democratic Front Demands Punjab Government Stop Brutally Suppressing Farmer Labor Struggles
Nawanshahr:- The conveners of the anti-Operation Green Hunt Democratic Front, Dr. Parminder Singh, Professor A.K. Maleri, Buta Singh Mahmoodpur, and Yashpal Chandigarh, strongly condemned the police for attempting to sabotage the BKU Ugrahan protest in Bathinda. They denounced the police for raiding leaders’ homes, using tear gas shells on peaceful farmers in the village, employing unwarranted violence, and injuring a farmer’s hand.
According to the Front leaders, the oppressive actions to suppress the struggle—including arresting farmers on government orders—are a clear indication of the anti-people attitude of the “Aap Government.” Preventing farmers from leaving their villages to participate in peaceful protests in Bathinda, treating them as enemies, and imposing governmental fear through authoritarian restrictions constitutes a serious and dangerous attack on the democratic rights of the farmers.
The leaders of the Front called on all pro-people democratic forces to take serious notice of this and to organize a widespread democratic struggle to defend fundamental democratic rights. They urged the Punjab government to abandon its authoritarian stance, adopt dialogue, immediately release arrested farmers, and stop using brutal suppression against farmer-labor and other struggles.
