Amritsar:- A case of continuous extortion and death threats from unknown foreign numbers has come to light in Jandiala Guru area of ??Amritsar. The victim, Kartik Malhotra (30), who runs a shop named ‘Malhotra Jeweller’, told the police in his complaint that a ransom of Rs 30 lakh has been demanded from him.
This series started on December 17, when he received a call from a foreign number on WhatsApp and threatened him and his brother Ankit with serious consequences if he did not pay the money.
Out of fear, the victim had deactivated his WhatsApp account, but after a few days, when he reactivated it, the threats started again. The police have registered a case under sections 308(4) and 351(2) of the Indian Penal Code in this matter.
