Cyclone Montha made landfall on Andhra Pradesh coast several houses collapsed

Visakhapatnam- Cyclone Montha made landfall on Andhra Pradesh's Machilipatnam coast late this evening, causing houses of many people living in the sea to collapse. Strong winds are currently blowing at a speed of 100 kmph and many houses collapsed due to large waves. The Meteorological Department has warned that waves of 16 feet high can rise in the sea due to this storm. On the other hand, a heavy rain alert has been issued in several districts of West Bengal and fishermen have been advised to stay away from the sea.
In view of Cyclone Montha, more than 37 flights between Shamshabad in Telangana and Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Rajahmundry airports in Andhra Pradesh have been cancelled. Officials said that 30 IndiGo, two Air India and five Air India Express flights have been cancelled near the Andhra Pradesh coast around Kakinada.
The Meteorological Department posted on X, saying, "SCS Montha is moving north-northwestwards. This is likely to cause heavy rain in 39 districts of Andhra Pradesh, in view of which Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed ministers, MPs and officials to protect life and property of the people.
Besides, Cyclonic Storm Montha caused rain in eight districts of South Odisha. The state government has evacuated people from low-lying areas and landslide-prone hilly areas of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal. The East Coast Railway has announced cancellation, diversion and temporary suspension of some trains running in the Volta region and adjoining routes.
Due to this, heavy rains are likely in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur district. Tiruvallur District Collector M. Pratap declared a holiday for schools on Tuesday in view of the possibility of heavy rains.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai, moderate rains with thunder and lightning are likely at isolated places in Chengalpattu, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Tirupattur, Villupuram, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari districts. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea till October 29.
