Corneal Transplant Brings New Light to 4YearOld Girl
Garhshankar: A ceremony was organized in Garhshankar by the Rotary Eye Bank and Corneal Transplant Society, presided over by Chairman J.B. Bahil. During the event, the bandages were removed from the eyes of 4-year-old Safra—following a corneal transplant—by Dr. Vijaypal Jagpal and his wife, Rajinder Kaur Jagpal (residents of England).
Several prominent personalities were present on this occasion, including Dr. Tarsem Singh (Chairman, Body Donation Committee), Ashwani Datta (Retired DEO), Mrs. Balwinder Kaur, Prof. Daljit Singh, Madan Lal Mahajan, and Krishna Kumar (Retired Bank Manager).
Also in attendance were members of the Garhshankar unit: Dr. Lakhwinder Kumar (President), Hari Krishna Gangad (General Secretary), Ukar Singh Chahalpuri (Secretary), Rajan Mallan (Cashier), and Dr. Deepak (Ophthalmologist).
This marked the organization's 4,162nd corneal transplant case. Notably, the young girl is the only child of her parents and had been suffering from a corneal ailment since early childhood. Her parents had spent three years seeking treatment for her at PGI and various other hospitals.
Subsequently, upon contacting the Rotary Eye Bank, the organization facilitated the girl's surgery at Arora Eye Hospital in Jalandhar. The entire cost of the operation was borne by Dr. Vijaypal Jagpal, a resident of England.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Tarsem Singh expressed his gratitude to everyone present and emphasized the importance of eye donation and social service.
