Congressmen burn PMs effigy against students and lathicharge
Ambala, July 22:- The Ambala Block Congress Committee, Ambala city today staged a strong protest against the central government at the local Polytechnic Chowk and burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express their anger against the alleged lathicharge and action on students in Delhi.
Addressing the workers, Block Congress Committee President Vinod Dhiman said that about six months ago, Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi had expressed concern about the growing threat to democratic institutions in the country and the possibility of an emergency-like situation which is now being witnessed across the country. He alleged that the cancellation of the NEET exam and the resulting tension have led to the loss of lives of several students against which thousands of students have been peacefully protesting at Jantar Mantar for the last 22 days.
He said that the government adopted a repressive attitude towards the protesters, including social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was forcibly taken to the hospital. After this, on July 20, Delhi Police used lathicharge and tear gas on students marching towards Parliament, injuring a large number of students.
He alleged that inhumane treatment was also meted out to girl students in this action, which is highly condemnable and a direct attack on democracy. Meanwhile, Congress Block President Rakesh Mahal said that Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has continuously raised the voice of students from the streets to Parliament.
When he tried to raise the student issue in Parliament, the House was adjourned. After this, Rahul Gandhi, MP Varun Mulana, Randeep Singh Surjewala and other Congress MPs staged a peaceful protest outside the Prime Minister's residence where Delhi Police used force to remove and push them away.
He said that the central government is trying to suppress the voices of farmers, youth, students, employees and the common people, but the Congress party will not bow down to this oppression. Congress will continue to fight vigorously for the rights of farmers, laborers, employees and students from the streets to Parliament.
In protest against the alleged misbehavior of the Congressmen while burning the effigy of the Prime Minister, BJP workers led by District President Mandeep Rana took out a procession and filed a complaint with the SP demanding strict action against the Congressmen for allegedly insulting the image of the Prime Minister of the country.
Rana said that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is sitting on a constitutional post, such insult cannot be tolerated. Rana said that the SP has assured action against the Congressmen. He also said that the demonstration was held without permission. The SP said that a complaint has been received, action will be taken as per the rules.
