Comprehensive Awareness and Preparedness Campaign Launched During Fire Safety Week

Hoshiarpu:- Under the directives of the Department of Health and Family Welfare, "Fire Safety Week" is being observed from May 4 to May 10, 2026. The primary objective of this campaign is to create widespread awareness about fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and safety measures among health institutions and the general public. 
Providing further details, Civil Surgeon Hoshiarpur, Dr. Mandeep Kamal, stated that the week commences today. On this occasion, special instructions have been issued to ensure compliance with fire safety protocols in all government and private health centers.
He further added that during this week, fire drills, emergency evacuation exercises, and inspections of safety equipment will be conducted in hospitals, primary health centers, and other health institutions. Staff will receive practical training to take immediate action in the event of a fire. 
Additionally, awareness camps will be organized in schools, Anganwadi centers, and crowded places to inform people about fire hazards, gas leaks, short circuits, and other potential causes. Messages will also be disseminated through pamphlets, posters, and audio-video media.
Dr. Mandeep Kamal informed that technical webinars will be held on May 5, 6, and 7, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. During these sessions, experts will provide detailed information on fire safety management, risk assessment, emergency response, and the correct use of safety equipment. Registration can be done via the issued QR code. 
He instructed all health workers to thoroughly check the functionality of fire safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, alarm systems, and emergency exits in their respective institutions. Furthermore, the timely repair and safe use of electrical appliances must be ensured.
Addressing the general public, Dr. Mandeep Kamal appealed to them to take precautions for fire prevention at homes and workplaces, ensure the safe use of gas cylinders and electrical appliances, and keep information regarding emergency numbers handy. He stated that "Fire Safety Week" is not just a campaign but a vital step toward saving lives, in which the participation of every citizen is crucial.
