Cold wave grips Kashmir Temperatures below zero Gulmarg remains coldest
Srinagar:- Cold wave grips Kashmir Valley with temperatures dipping below zero in most parts. Srinagar recorded a low of minus 1.5 degrees Celsius on Friday night, a drop from the previous night. Ski resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir was the coldest, with the mercury settling at minus 6.5 degrees Celsius.
Apart from this, Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 5.2 degrees Celsius. Qazigund recorded a low of minus 2.6 degrees Celsius, Kokernag recorded a low of minus 0.8 degrees Celsius, while Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 1.6 degrees Celsius.
The region is currently experiencing a 40-day spell of extreme cold during which night temperatures often drop several degrees below freezing. The chances of snowfall are highest during these days. However, there has been no snowfall in the plains of the valley so far this season.
The India Meteorological Department has predicted light rain or snowfall at isolated places in the higher reaches of north and central Kashmir on January 5 and 6. Before this, the weather is expected to remain dry till January 4.
