On this occasion, Post Warden Harbakhsh Singh said that the Civil Defence Act came into force in India on December 6, 1968. Civil Defence is the backbone of the country. While during war the army fights with the enemy country to maintain the border, within the country the role of civil defense is to protect the lives of the people, minimize the loss of property, keep business/agriculture running and keep the morale of the common citizen high. The latest example of which is the selfless service rendered by civil defense volunteers across the country during Operation Sandur and Operation Shield.
