Karnal, June 30: Acting under the directives of the Superintendent of Police, Karnal, and as part of a special campaign to curb crime and the smuggling of illegal weapons in the district, the CIA-1 Karnal team has arrested five individuals in a major operation. Eight illegal pistols, 30 live cartridges, and a Celerio car used in the commission of the crime were recovered from the accused. Inspector Sandeep Singh, In-charge of CIA-1, stated during a press conference that a case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Arms Act at the Madhuban Police Station, Karnal district.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Pawan alias Ponna (son of Khushiram, resident of Ward No. 02, Railway Road, Kalanaur, Rohtak district), Jatin (son of Rajendra, resident of Ward No. 01, Baba Colony, Kalanaur, Rohtak district), Rahul (son of Vijay Kumar, resident of Ward No. 07, Sant Colony, Kharkhoda, Sonipat district), Navdeep (son of Bhupendra, resident of Malpur, Bapoli Police Station, Panipat district), and Kapil (son of Kartar, resident of Malpur, Bapoli Police Station, Panipat district).
Inspector Sandeep Singh stated that the CIA-1 team arrested the accused on June 29, 2026, acting on a tip-off during a vehicle checkpoint operation on the Ring Road near Kutail village. They were arrested in accordance with the law following necessary interrogation and the completion of legal formalities. The police recovered and seized eight illegal pistols, 30 live cartridges, and the Celerio car used in the crime. The recovered items have been confiscated, and further legal proceedings have been initiated.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a criminal case was already registered against the arrested accused, Pawan alias Ponna. The criminal records of the other accused are also being verified. The police will produce all the accused before the honorable court and seek their remand in order to uncover the source of the illegal weapons, the supply chain, other individuals involved in the trade, and other matters linked to this network. A thorough investigation into the case is underway.
