Children should be taught about physical changes at an early age Supreme Court
New Delhi: The Supreme Court today said that children should be given education about physical changes and body-related issues from an early age, not after class 9. A bench of Justices Sanjay Kumar and Alok Aradhe said that this education should be a part of the curriculum in higher secondary schools so that children can know about the physical changes that occur in them as they grow up.
The bench said, “We are of the opinion that children should be given education about physical changes and related issues from an early age and the authorities should prepare a draft of precautions to be taken in this regard.” They stressed on making students aware of this.
The apex court made these observations while granting bail to a 15-year-old boy under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and section 6 (sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The top court directed him to be released on bail subject to the terms and conditions set by the Juvenile Justice Board.
