Children reminisced about their childhood by flying kites at the Rose Festival

Chandigarh: The Environment Society of India (ASI), Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh, organized a spectacular kite-flying show at the 54th Rose Festival in Sector 16, Chandigarh. The event witnessed a great enthusiasm, with a large number of kite flyers from the Tricity region and various parts of Punjab and Haryana participating. Participants included small children, school-going youngsters, boys and girls, senior citizens, and super citizens, all enjoying the colorful spectacle in the sky.
A special team from Ahmedabad, led by Mehul Pathak, added to the festival's charm by flying kites of various colors and sizes, enthralling the audience with their skill and artistry. Early in the morning, Municipal Councilor and Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation, Hardeep Singh Butrela, inaugurated the event and distributed free kites to the children.
He also participated in kite flying, reminiscing about his childhood, and emphasizing the importance of such cultural events in preserving India's rich heritage. He explained that kite flying not only increases environmental awareness but also fosters concentration and strengthens community bonds.
Mr. N.K. Jhingan, Secretary (Environment), Bharatiya Ekta Manch, Secretary of the Environment Society of India, thanked the Municipal Corporation for helping revive this beloved tradition. He explained that the Society has been organizing kite flying events during various festivals for the past 30-40 years and continues to promote this cultural activity.
He further explained that inviting the Ahmedabad team provided the locals with a live demonstration of artistic kite flying, something many had previously only seen through electronic media or photographs.
Mr. Jhingan urged the Chandigarh Administration to consider organizing special annual kite flying festivals, similar to those in other states. The sky was ablaze with kites of all colors, flown by people of all walks of life. The festive spirit and enthusiasm of the people there further enhanced the appeal of the Rose Festival. Kite flying activities will continue on Sunday, and it is expected that even more people will participate.
