Checking of school buses under Safe School Vehicle Policy

Hoshiarpur:- Keeping in mind the safety of school children under the Safe School Vehicle Policy, it is very important for school principals to follow all the norms/conditions in the buses. In this regard, as per the instructions issued by the Honorable Punjab and Haryana High Court and Punjab State Child Rights Protection Commission and the orders of Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, the buses of St. Joseph Convent School, B. R. Sainik School, Epitom World School and St. Soldier Divine Public School were checked under the Safe School Vehicle Policy.
During the checking, deficiencies such as expired first aid kits, fog lights, no lady attendant, no passing, no speed governor, no emergency exit in the bus, no fire extinguisher, no CCTV camera, excess seating capacity in the bus were found in the school buses. During this, a total of 35 buses were checked and challans of 9 buses were issued.
On this occasion, District Child Protection Officer Harpreet Kaur, Legal Officer Sukhjinder Singh, Supervisor Diksha, Traffic Incharge Surinder Kumar, ASI Rachpal Singh and the entire team were present. The entire team also created awareness about the Safe School Vehicle Policy in various schools. On this occasion, the Child Protection Officer said that there is often a risk of some accident happening with buses that do not fulfill the conditions as per the Safe School Vehicle Policy.
On this occasion, the task force said that this campaign will be run continuously in the entire district. The task force instructed all schools to conduct timely medical check-ups of all drivers. All bus drivers and attendants should wear their uniforms, take special care of young children travelling in buses, ensure that they cross the road properly while boarding and alighting from the bus, and immediately rectify any deficiencies found in the school buses.
