Chandigarh:- In a major breakthrough against transnational organized crime, notorious gangster Gurpreet Singh alias Goldy Dhillon has been arrested in Spain with the assistance of Indian security agencies and the Punjab Police. Goldy Dhillon is alleged to be the mastermind behind the high-profile daylight murder of Janaki Das, the cashier of Shri Kumar Medical Hall in Chandigarh's Sector 11 last month. He is also accused of issuing threats to a legislator.
Goldy Dhillon was on the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) most wanted list, and the agency had announced a cash reward of ?10 lakh for information leading to his arrest. Indian security agencies had been tracking his movements abroad for several months.
Following his arrest in Spain, Indian authorities have initiated the legal process for his deportation to India. After his return, the Chandigarh Police will obtain his custody through a production warrant and interrogate him in connection with the Sector 11 medical store shooting and murder case.
Originally a resident of Rajpura in Punjab, Goldy Dhillon fled India in 2022. He is believed to be a close associate of Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar. Despite leaving the country, investigators say he continued to operate an organized criminal network targeting Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, and the Delhi-NCR region from overseas. He is accused of orchestrating extortion, issuing threats to businessmen and political leaders, and directing targeted killings through phone-based communication.
Officials believe that Goldy Dhillon's interrogation could lead to significant revelations about international gangster networks and other organized crime operations linked to India.
