Chairperson of Child Rights Commission Conducts Surprise Inspection Expresses Displeasure Over Police Negligence

Karnal, July 9:- Tripti Sheoran, Chairperson of the Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, conducted a surprise inspection of the 'Place of Safety' in Karnal on Thursday to investigate an alleged case of assault on two children. A telephonic conversation with the complainant revealed that despite a complaint being filed in April, the Madhuban police station had not yet registered an FIR.
During the inspection, the police personnel present were unable to provide adequate information regarding the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, prompting the Chairperson to express strong displeasure. She directed DSP Sonu Narwal to register an FIR immediately. Additionally, she ordered that the children be produced before the Child Welfare Committee the following day and instructed that special training be organized for all Child Welfare Police Officers in the district. She also emphasized the need to further strengthen the Juvenile Police Unit.
The Chairperson also inspected the premises of the protective home; while the condition of the rooms was found to be satisfactory, she issued immediate directives for improvements after finding the bathrooms and toilets dirty and foul-smelling.
Subsequently, the Chairperson conducted a surprise inspection of 'Bal Bhavan' in Karnal. The children were found studying, and their care arrangements and records were deemed satisfactory. However, she expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of adequate progress regarding the reunification of children with their families and the exploration of non-institutional care options. She directed the Child Welfare Committee to immediately review all such cases and expedite the process of family reintegration for eligible children.
The Chairperson made it clear that administrative negligence regarding the violation of children's rights or related matters would not be tolerated under any circumstances, and the Commission would ensure swift and strict action in such cases.
