Census Preparations Begin in SAS Nagar with Phase1 Training

SAS Nagar, March 05:- In order to prepare for the smooth conduct of the upcoming Census operation in District Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, a two-day training session on House listing and Housing Census commenced today for District/Charge Officers and Regular/Technical Assistants.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ms. Geetika Singh informed that the training session aims to equip officers with the necessary technical know-how required for the successful implementation of the Census process.
Sharing further details, ADC (G) Geetika Singh, who has also been designated as the District Census Officer, said that the 16th Census of India (8th after Independence) will be conducted digitally this time. A Self-Enumeration window will be available through an online portal from April 30 to May 14, 2026, enabling households to submit their details online.
Thereafter, Enumerators will undertake house-to-house visits from May 15 to June 13, 2026, as part of Phase-1 of the Census, covering the House Listing Operation.
The training was conducted by Sh. Ankush Sharma, State Instructor Grade-1, and Sh. Satya Narayan, State Instructor Grade-2, from the Directorate of Census Operations, Punjab. The session was systematic and interactive, providing clear guidance on Census-2027 roles and responsibilities, legal provisions, House Listing Operation (HLO) schedules, and CMMS modules, including HLO management and monitoring. Participants actively engaged throughout the programme. The slogan of the Census is “Janganana Se Jankalyan.”
The training also emphasized the methodology to be adopted for the upcoming Census and reiterated the notified schedule, with Self-Enumeration from April 30 to May 14, 2026, followed by House listing fieldwork from May 15 to June 13, 2026.
It was further informed that Tehsildars will serve as Charge Officers for rural areas, while Executive Officers (EOs) and other officials will act as Charge Officers in urban areas falling under Municipal Councils and the Municipal Corporation.
Two Master Trainers from the district have been selected for training at Chandigarh, who will subsequently train 56 Field Trainers. The training cascade will be completed with the training of Enumerators and Supervisors.
Among those present were Jasjit Singh, Joint Commissioner, MC Mohali, Tehsildars and Executive Officers of the district, besides Officiating Deputy Economic Advisor Ranjit Singh.
