Book discussion organized at District Language Office Kapurthala
Kapurthala:- A discussion was organized on the short novel “Shikaran” by the renowned novelist of West Punjab, Ali Anwar Ahmed, on Monday, June 22, 2026 at the District Language Office, Kapurthala. This novel has been transliterated into Gurmukhi by poet and writer Shahbaz Khan. The renowned poet of the area, Prof. Kulwant Singh Aujla, attended the event as the chief guest. Dr. Satinderjit Singh (Sunny Pakhoke), Founder Books Root and Assistant Professor Dr. Sandeep Singh, Khalsa College Amritsar were specially present as special guests in this event. The discussion and paper reading ceremony on this short novel was conducted by Dr. Sardul Singh Aujla (Head, Punjabi Department) Dips College Dhilwan and Dr. Jasdeep Kaur (Assistant Professor, Punjabi) Hindu Kanya College Kapurthala.
The event began with the departmental tune, after which Mrs. Munazza Irshad welcomed all the guests and gave basic information about Shikaran (novel) and told how this book was selected for transliteration.
Principal Promila Arora gave information about the literary journey of Shahbaz Khan in the event and told how he has preserved the legacy given by his father Late Shri Kanwar Imtiaz and continued it with more zeal. She also gave information about other books edited, published and transliterated by Shahbaz Khan.
On this occasion, Dr. Gurbaksh Singh Bhandal Ji specially attended and blessed Shahbaz Khan for this unique work.
Stage manager Mrs. Narinder Neet told about Shahbaz Khan that he has successfully reviewed more than 100 books so far, reviewing is not an easy task and neither is transliteration an easy task.
After this, the chief speaker of today's event, Dr. Sardul Singh Aujla (Dips College Dhilwan), read the book and pamphlet and gave information about the colors of this book and said that this book repeatedly changes your perspective and this book is not only about Maujan but also many other memorable characters and stories are associated with it in which initially the topic starts from another aspect and how Maujan turns towards Bibi. He clarified that its title reveals the negative personality of a woman.
After this, Dr. Jasdeep Kaur (Punjabi Department Hindu Kanya College Kapurthala) gave information about the technical aspects of the novel and shed light on the layers of the novel by referring to modern and western theory.
The chief guest of this event, Prof. Kulwant Singh Aujla, while praising the work of Shahbaz Khan, said that how he is earning fame in literature by walking on the paths given by his father. He addressed the guests while reading his newly written work on Shahbaz Khan and his wife Hayat. He also appreciated this initiative of the District Language Officer, Kapurthala.
Today's special guest Dr. Satinderjit Singh (Sunny Pakhoke) Professor DAV College Amritsar and founder Book Route Amritsar, while praising the event, said that creating such an atmosphere in the book club is very good in itself. He said that the transliteration of the literature of western Punjab has come to Shahbaz Khan, which he has done very well.
Assistant Professor Dr. Sandeep Singh, Khalsa College Amritsar specially attended this event. He talked about the male-dominated society depicted in the novel and his perspective.
At the end of the event, Mrs. Jaspreet Kaur, District Language Officer, Kapurthala, thanked the guests and said that such events become even more meaningful with the presence of such distinguished personalities and listening to their views. At the end, she presented mementos to the guests and also presented certificates to Shahbaz Khan and Munazza Irshad.
S. Inderjit Singh Rupowali and his wife Sarabjit Rupowali (IPTA Kapurthala) were specially present on this occasion. Along with the chief guest, special guest, organizers, speakers, stage manager, S. Gurbhajan Singh Lasani, Dr. Gurbaksh Singh Bhandal, Sarwan Singh Aujla (State Awardee), Dr. Harbhajan Singh, Ravinder Kaur, Harjinder Singh Naglu, Santokh Malhi, Ritu Sood, Avinash Bhalla, Malkit Singh Meet, Swaraj Kaur, Manish Kumar and Manpreet Kaur were present in the event.
