According to fire brigade officials, the plane skidded off the runway and collided with vehicles on a nearby highway. The plane was a 'Hercules' plane of the Bolivian Air Force, which was carrying new banknotes of the central bank to other cities. The plane's collision damaged 15 vehicles on the highway.
In the pictures that emerged on social media, the wreckage of the plane, burnt cars and bodies are seen scattered on the road. It is not yet clear whether the dead were on the plane or in the cars on the road. The fire brigade managed to control the fire that broke out on the plane after much difficulty. After the accident, a large amount of cash present in the plane was scattered outside the airport. According to reports, hundreds of people reached the spot to collect the scattered notes. The situation got so bad that the police had to use anti-riot equipment to disperse the crowd. After the accident, the administration has temporarily stopped all flights to and from the airport in view of security.
