Bloody incident in Phagwara RTI activist Simranjit Singh shot dead
Phagwara:- The police have claimed to have solved the murder case of RTI activist Simranjit Singh near Om-3 Apartments located in village Maheru near Law Gate of Phagwara within a few hours. DIG of Jalandhar Range Naveen Singla said during a press conference held this evening that the deceased's maternal uncle's son Sharanjit Singh has been arrested in this case.
According to the DIG, Simranjit Singh and Sharanjit Singh were relatives and also used to do real estate business together. Police investigation has revealed that Sharanjit Singh had to take about five lakh rupees from Simranjit Singh. According to the police, today they reached Maheru area of ??Phagwara in their respective vehicles to view the plot. Sharanjit Singh had come in a Swift car with his five friends. During this, an argument broke out between the two over money transactions and other matters, which later turned violent.
The DIG said that during the argument, Sharanjit Singh opened fire with his colleague Sandeep's 32 bore licensed revolver. Simranjit Singh died on the spot due to the bullet hitting his head. He fled from the spot after the incident. The police, acting on the basis of technical and human intelligence, have arrested Sharanjit Singh from the bypass. The police have also recovered the weapon used in the incident from Sharanjit. Further interrogation regarding the case is going on.
The DIG said that every aspect of the case is being investigated thoroughly and further legal action will be taken based on the facts that come to light. SSP Gaurav Tura and SP Madhvi Sharma were also present on the occasion.
