Nawanshahr, July 8: Strongly condemning the ban on the screening of the film 'Satluj', based on the life of Shaheed Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra, within India, Shiromani Committee member Jathedar Mohinder Singh Hussainpur termed it as an act to suppress the freedom of expression. He stated that preventing the exposure of the atrocities committed against the Sikh minority in the country to the world is an unconstitutional act.
Jathedar Hussainpur said that in the 1990s, when Sikh youth were massacred and subjected to fake police encounters, human rights activist Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra, through his struggle and hard work, collected the details of the murdered youth and brought them before the world. He said that Bhai Khalra’s story highlights a massive violation of human rights, and the truth can never be suppressed; it always comes to light.
He further alleged that the spirits of figures like K.P.S. Gill are still present in some police officers today, who continue to stage fake encounters of youth. He pointed out the recurring narrative used by the police—claiming that while taking a youth for recovery, the youth attacked the police, and in the ensuing retaliatory fire, the youth was shot in the thigh. Jathedar Hussainpur stated that the truth of police excesses brought to light by Shaheed Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra must be presented to the people, and the film 'Satluj' should be allowed to be screened.
He remarked that the more one runs away from the truth, the more forcefully it manifests itself to the world. People should know that those who commit crimes can never escape. The Jathedar noted that the truth behind the fake police encounters of Sikh youth is gradually coming to light through the CBI court in Mohali. 
He stated that the CBI court has already convicted and sentenced many Punjab Police officers in cases of fake encounters, and therefore, the government needs to change its approach towards Sikhs and Punjab.
