Blind murder case exposed Accused arrested weapons and motorcycle recovered
Garhshankar/Hoshiarpur, 23 February:- On the orders of Mr. Gaurav Yadav IPS DGP Punjab and as per the directions of Mr. Sandeep Malik IPS Senior Superintendent of Police Hoshiarpur, the campaign being run against serious criminals under the able leadership of Mr. Daljit Singh Khakh PPS Deputy Superintendent of Police Sub Division Garhshankar got a huge response when while tracing the high profile blind murder that took place in village Mahindwani the previous day, the accused in the case Rakesh Kumar son of late Roshan Lal resident of Mahindwani police station Garhshankar was arrested from Shahpur Ghate on 22/2/26 at around 7.00 pm. And today on 23/2/26, the arrested accused was produced in court and remanded for 3 days and a 32 bore pistol, 3 live cartridges and a sickle along with a platinum motorcycle PB-16-F-7663 used in the incident were recovered.
On 07/02/26, Rachna, age about 60 years, wife of Sham Lal, resident of Mahindwani, was shot dead by an unknown person riding a motorcycle while returning from Maharaj Bhuriwale Kutia village Mahindwani at 5:30 AM after paying obeisance. In this regard, case number 20 dated 7/2/26 under Section 103(1), 25/27/54/59 Arms Act was registered at Garhshankar police station and investigation was initiated.
In this regard, a special investigation team was formed by the Honorable SSP Sahib Hoshiarpur Ji under the leadership of Mr. Daljit Singh Khakh DSP Garhshankar. This team worked day and night on various theories and traced this high profile blind murder.
During interrogation, the accused Rakesh Kumar admitted that he used to run a readymade cloth shop in village Gondpur Himachal Pradesh. His father Roshan Lal died some time ago. Rakesh Kumar had a strong suspicion that his aunt Rachna (deceased) wife Sham Lal resident of Mahindwani had performed black magic in his house due to which his father died and his cloth shop was not running.
The accused planned to kill his aunt. Before the murder, the accused tried to kill his aunt who was going to Kuttia twice in the morning but got scared and could not kill her. Then Rakesh Kumar left his private car, his wife and children at his in-laws' village Maili two days ago; and using the excuse of his car being damaged, he left it with a dhaba owner, Karam Chand son of Prem Chand, resident of village Gondpur, Bakhlaur Khad, police station Nurpur Bedi, and asked for his motorcycle and came to his house.
And the next day, on 7/2/26, early in the morning, he tied his face and rode on that motorcycle and stood on the road to Kutia at 5:15 AM. When his aunt Rachna was walking past him, he pulled out his pistol and shot 3 bullets at her and killed her and fled from the spot with the motorcycle. He had already switched off his mobile phone. Now, during the remand, he will be questioned further.

Recovered: 32 bore pistol, 3 live rounds, 1 sickle and platinum motorcycle PB 16 F 7663.
