Big step to make agriculture economical and profitable in Haryana

Chandigarh, September 2:- The state government has prepared to take big policy steps in Haryana with the aim of reducing agricultural costs, increasing farmers' income and promoting environment-friendly agriculture.
Presiding over a high-level review meeting on the topic "Mission for Self-Reliance in Policies" at his office in Chandigarh, Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Mr. Shyam Singh Rana gave clear instructions to the officials to prepare a special 'crop calendar' keeping in mind the region-wise climatic conditions in the state. Through this calendar, farmers will be properly guided, so that they can earn maximum profit at low cost.
In this meeting, Additional Chief Secretary of the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Mr. Vijender Kumar, Director Mr. Rajnarayan Kaushik, Additional Director Mr. Rampratap Sihag and Dr. Devendra Sihag along with many senior officials were present.
The Agriculture Minister told the officials that farmers should be encouraged to sow crops that require minimum fertilizer and water consumption. He laid special emphasis on identifying superior varieties of crops like paddy and pulses that can be exported abroad. This will not only provide better value and better income to the farmers for their produce, but also increase exports, which will positively increase the country's GDP. Reviewing the availability of superior seeds of crops for the coming season, he said that seeds play the biggest role in better production of any crop, hence the officials should motivate the farmers to buy only certified and advanced varieties of seeds.
To take natural farming to the grassroots level and reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers, Mr. Shyam Singh Rana suggested a unique initiative.
He asked the officials to explore the possibilities of preparing 'Jivamrit' from cow dung and cow urine in the cowsheds and providing it free of cost to the farmers, so that the farmers can increase their production through natural farming. For this, he advised to work by creating a dedicated pilot project. Along with this, with the aim of reducing labor and cost in agriculture, the Minister stressed on adopting modern mechanization for harvesting and threshing of cotton and pulses. He directed the officials to implement such scientific management from sowing to harvesting that would reduce the cost of farming and prove to be very economically beneficial for the farmers.
