BCCI extends chief selector Ajit Agarkars tenure by one year
Mumbai:- The BCCI has extended chief selector Ajit Agarkar's tenure by one year. He will now hold the post till the 2027 ODI World Cup. According to a media report, Agarkar's tenure has been extended rather than just extended. He will continue in this role for a fourth year based on his performance.
As per BCCI rules, a selector can hold the post for a maximum of four years. Earlier, media reports claimed that Agarkar himself had requested the BCCI to extend his tenure till the 2027 ODI World Cup.
The board had appointed Agarkar as the chief selector for a two-year term in 2023. In 2025, he had already got a one-year extension. Now, his tenure is being renewed till 2027. As a result, Agarkar will serve as the Chief Selector for a total of four years.
Ajit Agarkar's tenure so far has been very successful. Between October 2023 and March 2026, the Indian teams selected under his leadership reached the finals of four ICC tournaments. Of these, India won three titles: two T20 World Cups in 2024 and 2026, and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. In addition, Team India also reached the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, where it lost to Australia.
