Basic Fire Safety and Practice Camp Held Under Safe School Initiative
Batala, 15 April- A “Basic Fire Safety and Practice” camp was organized at Lawrence International School by the local Fire and Emergency Services under the theme “Safe School, Safe Hospital, and Fire Safety Aware Society - To Prevent Untoward Fire Incidents.” On this occasion, 200 students participated along with Fire Officer Rakesh Sharma, Harbaksh Singh (Civil Defence), Fire Tender/Fighters, Chairman Baljinder Singh Malianwal, Director Gurjit Singh Malianwal, Principal Dr. Upma Mahajan, Harpreet Singh, Gurjit Kaur, Gita, and Amandeep Kaur under the leadership of Fire Station In-charge Neeraj Sharma.
In the first session, it was explained that fire incidents are increasing due to environmental changes, primarily involving electrical equipment/batteries; special attention should be paid to their maintenance. Instructions were given on “what to do and what not to do” in case of a fire caused by negligence. Detailed information was shared regarding contacting the National Help Number 112 during any disaster or trouble.
During the second session’s mock drill, firefighters explained various types of fires and demonstrated the use of fire extinguishers using the PASS technique. They explained that P stands for Pull, A stands for Aim, S stands for Squeeze, and S stands for Swipe.
Remember that the wind direction should be at your back so that the chemical powder does not blow onto you. It should be used with great caution and intelligence on the spot. Maintain a firm grip on the cylinder while extinguishing the fire; if it falls on the ground for some reason, it can run like a missile and cause destruction. Students were also given practice in using fire extinguishers. If any untoward incident occurs, inform the local Fire Brigade Batala Control Room at number 91157 96801.
Teachers and students participated in this mock drill. In the end, the school management thanked the experts and expressed hope that the students would surely implement the information received on this occasion during emergency times, and mementos were presented.
