Assistant Commissioner General holds meeting with representatives of political parties

Sangrur, June 03:- The Election Commission of India, New Delhi, has already issued a notification regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in the state of Punjab. Under the directions of the District Election Officer, a meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Sangrur, under the chairmanship of the Assistant Commissioner (General), Sangrur, with the district presidents/secretaries/representatives of all recognized political parties to provide information regarding the guidelines issued for the Special Intensive Revision.
During the meeting, they were informed about the revised schedule of the Special Intensive Revision-2026 for Punjab. According to this, the draft publication of the voter list will now be done on August 03, 2026. Claims and objections will be received from August 03, 2026, to September 02, 2026, and after their disposal between August 03 and September 28, the final voter list will be published on October 01, 2026.
In connection with the SIR-2026, the Election Commission of India has directed that special camps be held on June 07, 2026 (Sunday) from 10:00 AM to 04:00 PM for mapping the current voter list with the 2003 voter list. For the convenience of voters, all BLOs will be present at their respective polling booths during these camps. Representatives of all political parties were urged to inform their party's BLAs to participate in the special camps to be held at all polling booths on June 07, 2026.
From June 25, 2026, to July 24, 2026, BLOs will go door-to-door in Punjab to fill out the Enumeration Forms. Although it is mandatory for all voters to fill out the form under the SIR, the process will be significantly easier for those whose votes are already mapped.
A total of 1006 BLOs, 107 BLO Supervisors, 05 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), and 10 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) have been deployed across 1006 booths in Sangrur district for the SIR work.
The objective of the Special Intensive Revision is to include every eligible citizen of the district in the voter list and to remove ineligible persons. Having dual voting rights is a punishable offense under the Indian Constitution, with imprisonment of up to one year. If a voter does not fill out the Enumeration Form under the SIR, they will not be included in the draft voter list to be published on August 03, 2026.
During the meeting, representatives of all political parties were appealed to provide full cooperation to the BLOs in the Special Intensive Revision and to appoint BLAs for every polling booth. The meeting was attended by representatives from various political parties, including BSP, BJP, SAD, Congress, SAD (Amritsar), AAP, and Election Tehsildar Mrs. Paramjit Kaur.
