Any attempt to divide Hoshiarpur will get a strong response Teekshan Sood
Hoshiarpur- Senior BJP leader and former cabinet minister Teekshan Sood has strongly condemned the deliberate attempts to reduce the portion of Hoshiarpur district. In a press statement, Sood accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of planning to create new districts in Punjab for political gains and in the meantime conspiring to reduce the boundaries of Hoshiarpur.
Sood warned that the government has the right to create districts or change their names, but if a plan is made to cut parts of Hoshiarpur and include them in new districts, then the people will strongly oppose it. He said, “If the state government takes such steps, a strong and befitting reply will be given to it.”
Talking about the long history of the district, Sood said that Hoshiarpur is about 175 years old and its location is at the foothills of the hilly region of Himachal Pradesh. It has a rich geographical and cultural heritage.
At one time, the district was spread from the Beas river to the Sutlej river, but during the re-organisation of 1966, that area was separated and later, when Nawanshahr district was formed, Balachaur area was also separated.
Sood alleged that the government’s intention to re-divide Hoshiarpur is creating deep anxiety among its residents. He said that the people are ready at all costs to protect the cultural and geographical identity of their district. He warned that any attempt to separate parts of Hoshiarpur to form a new district will have serious consequences.
