Garhshankar: The monthly meeting of the Doaba Sahitya Sabha (Registered), Garhshankar, was held at the Sabha's office—the Major Singh Mauji Memorial Library, Gandhi Park, Garhshankar—under the chairmanship of the Sabha's President, Principal Bikkar Singh (Dr.). While briefing the press regarding the proceedings of the meeting, the Sabha's General Secretary, Mr. Pawan Kumar Bhamian, announced that following a discussion on the Sabha's annual function, it was decided that the annual event would be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at a prominent institution in the region: the Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar.
The memorial awards to be conferred by the Sabha were unanimously approved. A consensus was reached to select the renowned writer and lyricist, Mr. Amrik Hamraj, for the 'Major Singh Mauji Memorial Award' presented by the Sabha. Additionally, it was decided to present the 'Principal Sujan Singh Memorial Award' to Lecturer Jaswinder Singh Jassi; the 'Ustad Ulfat Bajwa Memorial Award' to Mr. Gurdeep Saini; and a 'Special Award' to the Sabha's most enthusiastic and senior member—also a writer—Mr. Sarwan Sidhu.
To ensure the success of this event, all members present at the meeting participated in the proceedings with great enthusiasm and offered numerous constructive suggestions. Present on this occasion were Prof. Sandhu Warianvi (General Secretary of the Central Punjabi Writers' Union—Sekhon), Balbir Khanpuri, Amrik Hamraj, Ranvir Babbar, Mukesh Gujarati, Hans Raj, Principal Dalwara Ram, Hardev Rai, Sarwan Sidhu, Nambardar Joga Singh, Gurmel Singh, and Tarsem Bhamian, among others.
