Amritsar Post Office employee transferred for not speaking Punjabi

Amritsar:- A video of an officer posted at the Amritsar Post Office, who cannot speak Punjabi, went viral on social media and now this employee has been transferred. The employee was talking to a customer in Hindi, to which the customer and others objected.
Taking the matter seriously, Amritsar Post Office Division Superintendent Praveen Prasoon transferred the concerned Post Office Assistant Vishal Singh to another department. He said that Vishal Singh is a resident of Delhi and was serving in the Amritsar Post Office for the last four years.
Superintendent Praveen Prasoon said that many employees in the Amritsar Post Office are recruited from other states and their selection is done on the basis of knowledge of Hindi and English. He also clarified that it is inappropriate to make a video of a government employee and make it viral in this way.
He said that to avoid such situations in the future, post office employees will be given basic training in reading and speaking Punjabi to avoid inconvenience to the public.
