Air India Express pilot assaults passenger passengers nose broken demands justice
New Delhi:- The passenger, who was allegedly assaulted by an 'off-duty' Air India Express pilot at Delhi airport, said that a CT scan has confirmed that his left nasal bone is fractured. The complainant, Ankit Dewan, has now demanded justice in this matter.
Dewan said that he has submitted a written complaint to the Delhi Police and through media reports he has come to know that an FIR has been registered.
Dewan said, "I am currently taking care of my health. The CT scan done today has found a fracture in the nasal bone. I hope I will get justice in this matter." Delhi Police said on Monday that a case has been registered under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 126 (wrongful restraint) and 351 of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, based on a complaint received through Diwan's email. According to the police, the investigation is ongoing.
Earlier, the police had said that they had not received any formal complaint and that information about the incident came from the social media platform X. Diwan alleged that on December 19, Captain Virendra Sejwal of Air India Express physically assaulted him near the security area at Terminal-1 of the airport.
He claimed that the attack left him bleeding and his seven-year-old daughter, who witnessed the entire incident, is in shock. According to Diwan, the dispute started when he objected to some employees allegedly breaking the queue at the security check-post.
He alleged that the pilot also abused him before physically assaulting him. Air India Express issued a statement saying that it was aware of the incident. The airline has suspended the pilot from duty with immediate effect pending the completion of an internal investigation. The police are now investigating the matter on the basis of CCTV footage and evidence.
