Bathinda, August 4, 2026: The political activities of young leader Advocate Lekhpreet Singh Sidhu—popularly known as Vicky Barkandi—have ignited fresh discussions in the Bhucho Mandi Assembly constituency. Hailing from the village of Barkandi, Lekhpreet Singh Sidhu has become active on behalf of the Aam Aadmi Party. A lawyer by profession and a Block Samiti member, Vicky Barkandi inherited his political acumen from his late maternal grandfather, Comrade Gurdev Singh Diyalpura Mirja. Comrade Gurdev Singh spent his entire life fighting for the public interest, a path that Vicky Barkandi has now begun to follow. With the electoral arena gradually heating up ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, a sudden political stir has swept through the Bhucho constituency.
While Vicky Barkandi’s political maneuvers might be unsettling for some, the immense support he is receiving from the younger generation (Gen Z) during his village tours has boosted his confidence. He has been active in the constituency for several days, highlighting how the Aam Aadmi Party government has taken pro-people decisions.

The incumbent Aam Aadmi Party MLA for this constituency is Master Jagseer Singh, who also won the seat in 2017. In an exclusive conversation with 'Babushahi', Lekhpreet Singh asserted that if given the opportunity in the upcoming Assembly elections, he would not disappoint the party.
Vicky Barkandi stated that the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has steered development in a new direction and achieved several historic milestones during its tenure so far. He stated that while strict action has been taken against corruption, reforms in the education and health sectors have created a completely new atmosphere.
He noted that the standard of living for the common man has improved due to the transformation of government schools, free healthcare facilities, 600 units of free electricity per family, and the delivery of government services right to people's doorsteps. Vicky Barkandi remarked that it is the Aam Aadmi Party government that has consistently prioritized the issues of the common people and ensured there is no discrimination in development.
He mentioned that development works in the Bhucho constituency have proceeded rapidly, and more projects will soon be dedicated to the public. Vicky Barkandi appealed for strong support for Aam Aadmi Party candidates in the upcoming assembly elections—mirroring the support seen in 2022—to transform Punjab into 'Rangla Punjab' (a vibrant and prosperous Punjab).
