Additional Deputy Commissioner holds meeting with district officers regarding flood prevention
Nawanshahr:- In view of the monsoon season, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sanjeev Sharma today held an important meeting with district officials to ensure prevention of potential floods and safety of the general public.
During the meeting, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) directed officers from the Drainage, Irrigation, Public Works, Health, Food Supply, Police, and Revenue departments to complete advance arrangements within the stipulated time to deal with any potential flood situation. He said that cleaning of all drains, channels, and culverts should be carried out immediately so that there is no obstruction in the drainage of rainwater.
Work on strengthening the banks of the Sutlej River and sensitive embankments should be undertaken on a priority basis. Villages likely to be affected by floods should be identified, and arrangements for relief centers, boats, divers, ropes, sandbags, and other necessary equipment should be ensured there in advance.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) instructed the Health Department to maintain a stock of necessary medicines to prevent diseases that spread during floods and to keep medical teams ready. The Animal Husbandry Department was asked to arrange fodder and medicines for livestock.
He directed the Food Supply Department to stockpile rations in advance for relief camps and the Police Department to prepare a plan to maintain traffic and law and order. SDMs were ordered to establish control rooms in their respective sub-divisions and deploy teams working 24x7.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) made it clear that no negligence of any kind will be tolerated and all officers must work in mutual coordination. He also appealed to the public to follow the instructions issued by the administration and to contact the District Flood Control Room in any emergency situation.
