Additional Deputy Commissioner chairs Road Safety Committee meeting

Nawanshahr: Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sanjeev Sharma today presided over a meeting of the Road Safety Committee at the District Administrative Complex and reviewed the measures being taken to reduce road accidents in the district. During the meeting, the Additional Deputy Commissioner stated that road safety is not just the responsibility of the administration but of every citizen.
He directed the officials to organize special awareness camps regarding traffic rules in schools, colleges, markets, and villages to educate people, especially the youth and two-wheeler riders, about the importance of wearing helmets, using seat belts, and avoiding drunk driving.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner also directed to identify 'black spots' on the roads and take immediate corrective action, including the installation of speed breakers, signboards, and street lights. He asked the police department to take strict action against over-speeding, overloading, and underage driving.
He suggested that civil society, NGOs, and voluntary organizations should also be involved during road safety weeks and other campaigns to widen the scope of awareness. The Additional Deputy Commissioner directed the Health Department to strengthen emergency services at accident-prone sites and remain prepared to provide immediate first aid to the injured.
