ADC Reviews Implementation of SCST Atrocities Prevention and National Trust Acts

Una, March 30: Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahendra Pal Gurjar held meetings on Monday with the committees constituted under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the National Trust Act, 1999. While reviewing the effective implementation of both acts, he issued necessary directives to the concerned departments.
During the meeting of the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee, the ADC emphasized the prevention of caste-based discrimination and the provision of timely justice and relief to victims. He directed officials to expedite the investigation of cases registered under the Act. He informed the committee that, as of February 28, 2026, 73 cases have been registered in the district, 57 of which are currently pending in court. Judgments have been delivered in four cases; meanwhile, in seven cases, sections of the SC/ST Act were dropped following investigation, and police investigations are ongoing in five cases.
He further explained that the Act includes provisions for providing financial relief to victims ranging from ?100,000 to ?825,000. This relief amount is disbursed in a phased manner. He directed officials to maintain regular monitoring of these cases to ensure that victims receive timely relief and justice.
During the meeting of the District-Level Local Committee constituted under the National Trust Act, 1999, the ADC reviewed the legal protection mechanisms for individuals affected by autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation, and multiple disabilities. He noted that, upon attaining the age of 18, eligible individuals are assigned either permanent or limited-term legal guardians. To date, 113 permanent and 6 limited-term legal guardians have been appointed in the district.
He directed the concerned departments to ensure strict adherence to the provisions of both acts and to ensure that no laxity is shown in providing prompt relief and legal protection to victims and persons with disabilities.
DSP Ajay Thakur, District Welfare Officer Awas Pandit, and officials from various other departments were present at the meeting.
